How does All-on-4 work?
When using the All-on-4 technique, an oral surgeon will place four dental implants at the front of a patient’s jaw. The denture is designed to slide over the dental implants and lock into place. The outer two dental implants are angled beneath the gumline to support the weight of the rear portion of the denture.
Since the oral surgeon places the dental implants at the front of the jaw, where bone is thicker and wears away more gradually after tooth loss, many patients – even many long-term conventional denture wearers – are able to access this treatment option.
Will my denture be secure with All-on-4?
The bone fuses with the dental implants after they are inserted into the jaw, creating a strong bond between the jaw and the implant. Therefore, All-on-4 dental implants are much more stable and secure than conventional appliances. An implant-supported denture will stay in place while the patient speaks and even eats, without the need for denture adhesives. Patients who choose All-on-4 often note that they appreciate this peace of mind.
Other Benefits of All-on-4
In addition to the stability of All-on-4, this treatment method gives patients a way to pair smile restoration with greater functionality. This is particularly valuable when it comes to eating. The bond between bone and implant allows for more effective processing of a variety of foods, including fibrous fresh fruits and vegetables. That means that an All-on-4 patient will need to make few, if any, dietary adjustments. All-on-4 dental implants also feel more lifelike, resulting in more comfort for patients.
