Sedation Methods

Mild local anesthetics are gently injected into the site where treatment is performed and mild sedatives may be administered via nasal mask (nitrous oxide) or through oral tablets (anti-anxiety) medication. Anti-anxiety medication normally belongs to the benzodiazepine family of drugs and helps reduce feelings of worry or panic while also increasing feelings of relaxation. Oral medications do have a sedative effect and will impair motor function so it is important for patients receiving this type of medication to arrange for transportation before and after treatment. 

Another method for improving comfort and relaxation is through medication delivered intravenously. IV sedation or anesthesia is stronger than oral and local anesthetics; however, it allows for greater control over its effects and dosage. Our team utilizes FDA-approved medication for anesthesia, and during treatment we closely monitor vitals such as respiratory rate, heart rate, and exhaled gases to ensure the utmost safety of our patients.
