27 Jun Will scars be visible after facial surgery?
After any type of surgery that involves the face, many folks wonder if there will be visible scaring. Our oral surgeons and our staff take this common concern very seriously. We know that facial scars can make patients feel self-conscious. When surgery is needed – especially after a patient has endured facial trauma – we try our best to reduce the likelihood of scarring whenever possible. Our objective is to repair damage done by injuries in as aesthetically pleasing of a way possible. In addition to considering aesthetics during procedures, we provide post-operative instructions to help promote optimal recovery and healing.
Will I be comfortable during my procedure?
Another important aspect of oral and maxillofacial surgery is ensuring that our guests are comfortable during treatment. Enduring trauma to the face is incredibly distressing and because of the nature of these injuries, we know that extra care and compassion are necessary to healing emotionally and physically. With a gentle touch and pain-relieving medication, we can control discomfort and help our patients feel at ease.
What types of treatments are needed after facial trauma?
The type of treatment a person requires after trauma varies based on the nature and extent of the injuries. Some patients may only need lacerations closed with sutures while others may require corrective jaw surgery or dental implants to replace lost teeth.
Every case of trauma is unique in its own way and that is why we take a personalized approach to treatment. Our goal is to improve oral function and quality of life so that our patients can resume their normal routines as quickly as possible.
What is an oral surgeon?
An oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) is a specialist. In addition to having a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery), a master’s in oral and maxillofacial surgery is completed along with residency training. An OMS has experience with emergency care along with outpatient treatments such as tooth extractions and implant dentistry.
